The wonderful facilitators from the NZ Peace Foundation are coming back to run their Peaceful Family Communication Workshop over 2 days on the 7th and 14th of September. Which is pretty soon, eep!
I quickly put a site together in the old free wordpress.com so people had somewhere to land and fill in a form if they got lost looking for info so here's a link to that:

and the facebook event:

We're hosting it here on Waiheke Island at Waiheke Primary School and I'm helping out with coordinating it from the Waiheke side, together with Wendy from Waiheke Primary Parents&Co.
This incredible effective skills-based training is open to all parents, caregivers, teachers and grandparents who want to learn more about modelling respectful communication to their kids, building and strengthening their relationships and ensuring that communication stays positive and constructive into the future.
I did the course last year when we ran it over a weekend & although I have been through a lot of conflict resolution & communication training as a mediator, this course has been incredibly valuable to me as a parent and a partner in helping me see what works and what doesn't.
Considering how to really help your kids help themselves, through the subtleties of the language we use was one of the big insights for me.
Another thing I considered after the workshop last year was who were the elders and teachers that really left an impression on me and who caused me to take on values, or even change my values. Yelena helped me to see that the only way people have a real influence on each other is not so much through what they say, it is through how they treat you consistently with respect and kindness that you are willing to absorb their values and the values that you learn are the ones that you see them DO.
A big lesson in living by example that I needed to hear.
Anyway, this course is open to every parent & caregiver in the Waiheke Community.
It is a 15 hour training run over two Sundays: the 7th and 14th of September from 9 am to 5pm.
There will be tea and coffee available and there will be some lunch available for purchase.
The cost of the workshop is $20 pp and places are limited so get hold of me@vibeke.co.nz or virin@peacefoundation.org.nz to book or ask any questions!
